A Free Saturday

Yesterday Before Tomorrow realized that somehow there had been a scheduling that had gotten lost somehow.  It was to do an NYI convention… today. This is the experience as well as I can describe it.

We woke up at 4:30AM, I don’t know why they call this time AM, it’s clearly still night at this hour.  We got ready and left… now, that usually is quite a task, however today it went smoother than normal. We all took showers, got dressed, grabbed the stuff we needed to take and hit the road. What’s the difference between this and the normal departure? This day we didn’t take the girls with.  For one glorious day we were an all guy band.  While I love our two girls and am glad to have them when they’re there, it was a pretty sweet change to be surrounded by nothing but testosterone all day.

For some reason today, I woke up in the best mood, which means that I had to drive. I don’t know if this is a method to make the drive the safest, or if it’s simply to even out the moods of everyone. It was a long drive, and I was very tired, but we somehow made it.

NYI conventions are pretty laid back things, it’s all the youth, so dressing up isn’t really needed. I wore an olivet shirt and jeans, complete with my pumas with orange laces. This however was combined with some sort of other conference… we realized that we were underdressed shortly after walking into a room of nazarene sport coats and khakis… felt naked most of the day.

The highlight of the day by far was getting to play prelude, interlude, and postlude. Not only did we get to play for fun for several minutes at a time. We played jazz!!! Before Tomorrow played jazz!!! and it sounded pretty decent!!! I think this day should go down in PR history.

Point is, when all is said and done it was a fine day. I was under dressed, and we sat through a whole bunch of business stuff, none of which pertained to us. But it was fine, and 12 hours later it’s over and I’m home in my comfy house, excited to play electric guitar at church tomorrow. Stop by North Campus if you can!
